Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA)?
- KBA is a quiz of 5 questions generated from credit bureau records. Questions are specific to the signer — past addresses, loan amounts, vehicle makes. The signer must answer at least 4 of 5 correctly within 2 minutes.
- Which government IDs are accepted?
- US driver licenses, state-issued IDs, and US passports. International passports from most countries are also accepted. The ID must be unexpired and have a photograph.
- Is identity verification required for every signing?
- Identity verification is required for Remote Online Notarization (RON) sessions. For standard e-signatures without notarization, it is optional but recommended for high-value documents.
- Does identity verification cost extra?
- Identity verification is included with every notarization session. No separate charge. Notarization ranges from $45-175 depending on document type.
- What happens if the signer fails KBA?
- If the signer fails the first attempt, they can try once more with a new set of questions. If they fail again, the session is terminated and the notarization cannot proceed until identity is verified in person.
- How is my ID data protected?
- ID images are encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). Data is stored in SOC 2 compliant infrastructure. KBA responses are never stored — only pass/fail results are recorded.
