Why Identity Verification

Know exactly who is signing.

5-Question KBA

Knowledge-Based Authentication pulls from credit bureau data. 5 multiple-choice questions only the real person can answer. Must pass 4 of 5 to proceed.

Government ID Scan

Scan a driver license, state ID, or passport. AI verifies the photo, name, address, expiration date, and security features in seconds.

Liveness Detection

Real-time video confirms the person on camera matches the ID photo. Prevents impersonation and pre-recorded video attacks.

Fraud Scoring

AI analyzes device fingerprint, IP geolocation, and behavioral signals. High-risk sessions are flagged for manual review.

Multi-State Compliance

Meets RON identity verification requirements for all 50 states. Updated automatically as state laws change.

Audit Record

Every verification step is logged: KBA results, ID images, liveness screenshots, and fraud scores. Stored for 10 years per state requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA)?
KBA is a quiz of 5 questions generated from credit bureau records. Questions are specific to the signer — past addresses, loan amounts, vehicle makes. The signer must answer at least 4 of 5 correctly within 2 minutes.
Which government IDs are accepted?
US driver licenses, state-issued IDs, and US passports. International passports from most countries are also accepted. The ID must be unexpired and have a photograph.
Is identity verification required for every signing?
Identity verification is required for Remote Online Notarization (RON) sessions. For standard e-signatures without notarization, it is optional but recommended for high-value documents.
Does identity verification cost extra?
Identity verification is included with every notarization session. No separate charge. Notarization ranges from $45-175 depending on document type.
What happens if the signer fails KBA?
If the signer fails the first attempt, they can try once more with a new set of questions. If they fail again, the session is terminated and the notarization cannot proceed until identity is verified in person.
How is my ID data protected?
ID images are encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3). Data is stored in SOC 2 compliant infrastructure. KBA responses are never stored — only pass/fail results are recorded.
